Create a capacity calculator

Are you starting all your sprints not knowing what to plan for? Are you always planning more than your team can actually deliver? Despite the hours and multiple meetings they spend on planning, many teams plan sprints that result in big commitments and under-delivering.

The Sprint Professional’s capacity calculator provides you with proven capacity templates containing plenty of constraints to consider for more accurate planning and a healthier work environment.

Calculate Your New Sprint’s Capacity

  1. Using the navigation panel create your first team or choose an existing one.
  2. Click on "Create new" or directly on “Capacity calculator”.
  3. Enter the sprint’s name and dates.
  4. Choose the country - this will affect your team’s working days and holidays.
  5. Choose your estimation method.
  6. Click "Create".

Note: Don’t worry, we’ll remember your country and estimation method for the next sprints.

Update Your Sprint Details

Once you’re inside the capacity calculator, you can update your sprint details by simply clicking on the field you want to edit:

  1. Sprint Name
  2. Country (Note: this change may affect your team capacity).
  3. Estimation method
  4. Sprint Dates (Note: this change may affect your team capacity).

Manage Your Sprint Members

  1. Your GoRetro team members will automatically appear in your capacity calculator.
  2. If you want to add a member that is not part of your GoRetro team, click on the “add member” button and enter their name.

    Note: This member will be added only to this sprint - to have them in all your upcoming sprints, add them to the team through the teams' tab.
  3. To hide a member from this sprint’s capacity plan:
  4. Hover over the relevant name in the member column.
  5. Click on the eye icon.
  6. To show them again, click the eye icon again.

Manage Your Columns

You can now add custom columns to add or reduce capacity and configure the column's settings.

To create a new column:

  1. Click on the + icon at the top right corner of the table.
  2. Select one of the existing options or click on Create custom column.
  3. Set the name and description of the column.
  4. Define the column measurements (hours, days, SP).
  5. Select between 'add' or 'reduce' capacity.
  6. Define a default value, if applicable.
  7. Select if to automatically add this column to your next sprints.

To update the configuration of an existing column:

  1. Hover over the column header.
  2. Click on the 3 dots
  3. Select Column Settings.
