Creating a capacity plan is the first step in making your team predictable and comfortable to commit to your sprint scope. But you may still find yourself wondering how much work they can each really take on, how that differs from one engineer to the other, and how to keep a comfortable work environment while committing to valuable sprints.

Using GoRetro’s Jira integration, you will get a real indication of the capacity per engineer, based on their previous sprints work.

Sync your team members with Jira

To use your existing integration with our Capacity Calculator you first need to do a one time set up:

1. Create a new capacity calculator for your sprint
2. Click on the Jira icon on top of the "Team members" column
3. In the dialog map between your GoRetro team members and their Jira accounts. Click on the text field and start typing their name, click on the relevant name in the list.
4. Click on 'Save' when you're done.

Please note: This mapping will be saved for your GoRetro team members and will automatically apply to your next capacity calculators. If you want to calculate capacity for members who are not part of your GoRetro team you'll need to map them every time you create a new capacity calculator.

Edit or remove the mapping between team members and Jira

1. Click on the Jira icon on top of the "Team members" column
2. In the dialog click on the X next to the team member you want to remove the mapping for.
3. If you want to map it to a different Jira user, click on the text field and start typing their name, click on the relevant name in the list.
4. Click on 'Save' when you're done.

Import capacity from Jira

After you mapped your team members, you can import their capacity per day:

1. Click on the Jira icon above the “Capacity per day” column
2. Select the team members you'd like to import capacity for
3. Confirm the import
4. Review the calculated running-average capacity

Please note: If some team members are not mapped to their Jira accounts you'll need to input their capacity manually.

Import carry over from Jira

1. Click on the Jira icon above the “Carry over” column
2. Choose which sprint you want to import carry over from
3. Select the team members you'd like to import carry over for
4. Confirm the import
5. Review the calculated carry over

Don’t have a Jira integration set up yet? No worries!

You can set your integration by clicking the same Jira icon next to the “Capacity per day” field, and then clicking on the “Integrate to Jira now” button.
